Most churches teach three unrelated things on a Sunday morning. The pastor preaches one text, the youth group covers another, the children color in a third, and by the drive home there is nothing to talk about.
The Common Table puts a whole congregation on one Scripture and one Big Idea every week for a year, pitched three ways. Fifty-two weeks, three volumes, one text at a time, following the church calendar from Advent through Easter to ordinary time.
Every week each volume also carries a Family Table page: the questions that turn "what did you learn today" into an actual conversation between a parent, a teenager, and an eight-year-old who have all just heard the same thing.
The Floor Edition is the children's volume, on the same text as the sermon and the youth group every week. Fifty-two lessons for ages four to eight: story scripts written to be told rather than read aloud, crafts, games, and copy-ready sheets for every week of the year.
Everything a volunteer needs is in the book. The reproducible pages are designed to survive a flat black-and-white photocopy, because that is how a small church actually reproduces things, and the permission to copy them is printed inside.
Written for the children's director, and for the volunteer who said yes in September and has been looking for the lesson ever since.
